ABOUT :
The sap of conifers (like pine, spruce, and fir) is well known in many traditional cultures to have astounding properties. The trees themselves use it to seal their own wounds. If a branch is broken or a piece of bark torn from the tree the pitch oozes liberally onto the wound providing a protective bandage for the tree. Applying the raw pitch or a salve made from the pitch will have the same protective properties on wounds to our skin. It stimulates rapid regeneration and activates an efficient response to whatever ails your skin, be it a burn, a splinter, a scratch or cut, or an infected area.

Old-fashioned pine tar salve has been traditionally used to as an all purpose, for everything from splinters, bug bites and boils, to patches of eczema or psoriasis.

Resin (Other names : Sap and Pitch) is produced as a protective agent to seal physical wounds and create a barrier to infection by bacteria and fungus or invasion by insects. Resin produced in the tree’s cells are directed through ducts toward an injury and can flush and seal the wound, trap invaders, and act to eradicate them.

Pine Pitch Salves have been used for hundreds of years as a poultice or decoction of the bark was historically used for cuts, wounds, sores, skin eruptions, bruises, scabs, and slivers, while a poultice of the resin was applied to inflammations and abscesses, used to draw out the poison from boils, and used as the base for salve.

The volatile terpenes in pine resin are also helpful for respiratory congestion and the salve can be rubbed on the chest as an aromatherapeutic agent.

Due to its warming and stimulating nature, pine resin salve can also be used as a soothing and warming rub for sore muscles and painful joints.

Pine trees have been partnered with to support health for many generations. Traditionally, they are symbols of wisdom, peace and longevity. The pitch, bark, needles, hydrosol and essential oil of many varieties of Pine are used medicinally.

Pine trees produce sticky pine resin as a protective response to injury, insect assault, and fungal or bacterial stress.

I never take all the resin from any one spot on the tree, just the outer part of the resin, leaving the inner resin to suffocate the bugs or heal the breach in the integrity of the tree’s bark.
