Pristine + Rare Pinyon Pine Essential Oil ~ Ethically wild harvested, Aromatic, Perfumery, Pure, Wild, Coniferous
We are extremely excited to offer this absolutely incredible essential oil of Pinyon Pine. A truly rare and incredibly healing oil.
Undiluted, powerful and extremely pure.
Grown organically with utmost purity and ethically harvested.
Our wild Pinyon Pine essential oil is a limited edition, exquisite artisan distillation of needles and twigs ethically harvested from wild grown Pinus edulis trees; this gorgeous specialty offering displays smooth, fresh conifer and woody/resinous body notes with a peculiar butter-like back note and extremely fine, peach/floral top notes of delicate diffusiveness. A mild terpenic note mingles with the peach/floral aspect throughout its long drydown.
Pinyon Pine trees grow at elevations between 3,000 – 10,000 feet1 and are native to, and occur abundantly in, the Four Corners area of the US – Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico with a range that has expanded into the surrounding states and Northern Mexico. These slow-growing trees – with fossil records dating back 50,000 years! – are commonly over 750 years old, with some reaching the age of 900 years or more. The Pinus edulis species is used in various forest studies including erosion and growth responses to climate change "and a host of more esoteric problems in archeology, tree physiology, climate studies, ecology, and geology. More than almost any other tree species, it acts as an articulate witness of all that it experiences in its long lifetime."5 We note that the exceptional energetics of this oil – as testament to those experiences – together with the care, respect and skills employed in the harvesting and extraction processes are clearly reflected in the quality of this exquisite plant essence.
Coniferous trees in general – Pine, Spruce, Fir – are the guardian trees of our planet with their specific purifying, cleansing constituents. The primary components present in Pinyon Pine are a group of monoterpene hydrocarbons and bornyl acetate with many other constituents in smaller amounts. In the higher boiling fractions, chemists have been able to identify ethyl caprylate, a compound responsible for the characteristic fruity fragrance of Pinyon Pine.
We know, from numerous historical records, of the liberal use of the tree’s needles and sap in traditional medicine, but the pine nuts had also served as an abundant and nutritious winter food source for pioneers and native populations. Unfortunately, due to its relatively recent introduction into aromatherapy practice, there is limited information regarding the aromatherapeutic attributes of Pinyon Pine essential oil; it is generally recognized as having a chemical composition and properties similar to Pine essential oil, but seems closer to Fir oils, particularly due to the sweetness of fruity esters that do not appear in most Pinus species. Pinyon Pine is just sublime in a diffuser – bringing the outdoors in – especially during the winter months, when stuffy rooms and waning daylight tend to darken the mood.
