Ocote Pine Resin | Wildharvested
Ocote, also known as Copal de Ocote, is a resinous pine wood traditionally gathered in the mountainous regions of Mexico. This beautiful aromatic resin comes from pine trees such as the Montezuma Pine, which thrive in cooler, higher-altitude regions where rainfall is abundant.
In Mexico, many aromatic tree resins are commonly referred to as copal. While the well-known copals often come from Bursera trees, Ocote is a treasured pine resin used in regions where Bursera species are less common. It has been worked with for generations as an incense, medicine & ceremonial offering.
Ocote carries a warm, sweet pine aroma with soft citrusy, fruity notes. When placed on charcoal, it releases a bright, cleansing smoke that is traditionally used to purify spaces, uplift the spirit & support energetic clearing. It may be burned on its own or blended with other resins, woods, barks & botanicals to create incense blends.
This resin can also be infused into warm carrier oils to create a base for traditional chest rubs, muscle balms, salves & anointing oils. Pine resins have long been used in folk herbal traditions around the world for topical preparations connected to breath, circulation, skin & musculoskeletal support.
Our Copal de Ocote is wild harvested in small amounts with deep respect for the trees & surrounding ecosystem. We believe in gathering only what is needed & leaving the majority intact so the resin can continue serving the tree, the land & the small beings who rely on it for habitat.
